VmVault was born from a simple family problem — too many precious voicemails and no good way to keep them all. We built this app so that no one has to choose which memories to delete. We’re a small team and we genuinely care about your experience. If you need help, we’re here.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I import a voicemail?
Open the Phone app on your iPhone and tap Voicemail at the bottom. Find the voicemail you want to save, tap it to expand it, then tap the Share icon. Scroll through the share sheet until you see VmVault and tap it. You’ll be prompted to enter the caller’s name, phone number, the date the voicemail was left, and any notes. Tap Save and the voicemail will appear in your archive.
2. Why doesn’t the voicemail show the caller name and date automatically when I import it?
This is a limitation of how iOS shares audio files. When you share a voicemail from the Phone app, Apple only sends the audio recording itself — caller information and the original date are not included in what gets passed to VmVault. This isn’t something we can work around, unfortunately. That’s why we ask you to enter the caller name and date manually at import time. It only takes a few seconds and ensures your archive stays accurate and meaningful.
3. The voicemail date is wrong — can I fix it?
Currently the date can only be set at import time using the date picker in the share extension. If you entered the wrong date, the best approach is to delete the voicemail and re-import it, setting the correct date when prompted. We know this isn’t ideal and plan to add in-app date editing in a future update.
4. How do I add or edit notes on a voicemail?
Open any voicemail and tap the pencil icon next to the notes area. Type your note and tap Save. Notes are a great way to capture context — who left the message, what it was about, or why it’s special to you.
5. How do I share a single voicemail?
Open the voicemail and tap the Share button. The iOS Share Sheet will appear, giving you options to send via email, Messages, AirDrop, save to Files, or share to any other compatible app installed on your device. The voicemail is shared as an audio file that can be played on any device.
6. How do I export multiple voicemails?
From the main voicemail list, tap the Select button in the top right. Checkboxes will appear next to each voicemail. Tap the ones you want to export, then tap the Export button. The iOS Share Sheet will open with your selected files. For large selections, saving to Files or a cloud service like Dropbox is recommended over email, as email services typically have a 25MB attachment limit.
7. Are my voicemails backed up?
Yes. Every voicemail you import is automatically copied to a folder called VmVault in your personal iCloud Drive. No setup is required — this happens in the background at import time.
You can check your backups at any time: open the Files app, tap Browse, then iCloud Drive, and look for the VmVault folder. Each file is named so you can recognize it, for example 2026-03-21_Mom_Smith_550e8400.m4a.
If iCloud Drive isn’t available when you import, the backup is marked as pending and VmVault retries automatically the next time you open the app. You can also retry manually from the voicemail detail screen by tapping the backup status indicator.
If you also have iCloud Backup enabled for your iPhone, your voicemails are additionally included in your regular device backup.
8. What’s the difference between backup and sync?
VmVault backs up your voicemails — it makes a copy in iCloud Drive. It does not sync them. If you later edit a note or delete a voicemail inside VmVault, the copy in iCloud Drive is not automatically updated to match. Think of the backup folder as a safety copy, not a live mirror of the app.
9. What happens if I get a new iPhone?
Your backup files live in iCloud Drive, so they’ll be available on your new iPhone automatically once you sign in with your Apple ID. To bring them back into VmVault, open the Files app, go to iCloud Drive → VmVault, tap a voicemail file, tap the Share icon, and choose VmVault. A future update will automate this restore process.
10. What if I’m leaving iPhone or iCloud?
Before switching platforms, we strongly recommend using the Export feature to save all your voicemails somewhere you control. Your iCloud Drive backup files are also downloadable directly from icloud.com in any browser.
11. Why doesn’t the app have a password?
Your iPhone’s Face ID or passcode already provides strong protection for everything on your device, including VmVault. We made a deliberate choice not to add a separate app password — it’s one less thing to remember and one less barrier between you and your memories. All your data is encrypted at rest by iOS automatically.
12. Where is my data stored?
All your voicemails and profile information are stored locally on your iPhone, with backup copies in your personal iCloud Drive account. Nothing is sent to our servers — we don’t have any. White Space LLC has no access to your voicemails, your iCloud Drive, or any other data in the app.
13. Can I use this app on iPad or multiple devices?
VmVault is designed for iPhone. It is not currently optimized for iPad. Multi-device sync is not supported in this version — your voicemail archive lives on the iPhone where you imported it. Cloud sync across multiple devices is something we’re considering for a future update.
14. How do I delete a voicemail?
Swipe left on any voicemail in the list and tap Delete, or open the voicemail and tap the Delete button. Either way you’ll be asked to confirm first.
If the voicemail has been backed up, you’ll be given a choice: delete the voicemail and its backup copy, or delete the voicemail only and keep the backup in iCloud Drive. If the backup copy can’t be removed, VmVault will tell you so you can delete it yourself from the VmVault folder.
Deleted voicemails cannot be recovered from within the app, so please export anything important before deleting.
15. What happens if I reset the app?
Resetting permanently deletes all voicemails and your profile from your device, and cannot be undone. Your backup files in iCloud Drive are not deleted by a reset — they stay in the VmVault folder for you to access or remove yourself. Export anything you want to keep before resetting.
16. What audio formats are supported?
VmVault supports m4a, mp3, wav, and most common audio formats used by US carriers for voicemail. If you encounter a format that doesn’t play correctly, please contact us at support@wsrl.com and include your carrier name so we can look into it.
17. How do I contact support?
Email us at support@wsrl.com. Please include your app version number (found in the Account screen under the menu icon) and a description of your issue or question. We’re a small team but we read every message and we’ll do our best to help.
A Note from the Team
VmVault started because our family faced the same problem you probably did — a voicemail inbox full of irreplaceable messages from people we love, and no good way to keep them all. We built this for our family, and we’re glad it can help yours too. Thank you for trusting us with something so personal.
